What will the tidy tips accept?

Our Household Waste Recycling Centres (tidy tips) accept:

  • glass bottles and jars
  • cardboard (including corrugated cardboard)
  • green garden waste
  • wood
  • newspaper and paper
  • aluminium cans
  • textiles
  • hard plastics (how we deal with hard plastics)
  • scrap metal
  • electrical appliances
  • TVs, computer equipment etc. (please ensure all personal data is removed from items such as PCs, laptops, smart TVs, mobile phones, tablets and sat navs)
  • white electrical goods, including fridges and freezers
  • household furniture (beds, mattresses, duvets, wardrobes, chest of drawers, etc.)
  • carpets and underlays (no carpet tiles)
  • car and household batteries (no lithium batteries)
  • light bulbs, including fluorescent tubes
  • used engine oil (maximum 20 litres per visit, with a permit; find out how to get a permit)
  • cooking oil
  • small gas bottles – unless they can be returned to the manufacturer/retailer
  • large gas bottles (with a permit) – unless they can be returned to the manufacturer/retailer
  • domestic fire extinguishers (with a permit; find out how to get a permit)
  • paint/paint tins
  • tyres (maximum 2 tyres, with a permit; find out how to get a permit)
  • mixed recycling
  • DIY waste (with a permit; find out how to get a permit)
  • printer ink cartridges

Please note: Sometimes, when the container gets full, we'll have to close it until we can empty it. We try to minimise these closures, but sometimes they're unavoidable.

Bulky waste

If you have large/bulky items, which are too difficult to get to the tip, then you can arrange a bulky waste collection. We can also collect fridges and freezers. There are charges for these collections.
