Local Safeguarding Children's Board

Accountability and governance

The LSCB’s role is coordinating and ensuring the effectiveness of work done by member organisations to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, it is not accountable for the operational work. This remains with the individual organisations and services. The LSCB does not have the power to direct other organisations.

The structure of Central Bedfordshire Local Safeguarding Children Board is as follows:

  • The Strategic Board, the formal LSCB forum meets quarterly. It provides a strategic overview of performance and provides leadership and direction on partnership issues and safeguarding children in Central Bedfordshire
  • The Practice and Performance Group; meets 8 times per year and provides detailed scrutiny of performance and carries out case audits to deliver on the LSCB learning and improvement framework
  • Training commissioning and management.  This is a joint function with Bedford Borough Local Safeguarding Children Board. This function provides a wide range of training opportunities on a number of different safeguarding issues. This learning can be accessed either via a e-learning or face to face.
  • Case Review Panel - responsible for reviewing cases where a child has died or has been seriously harmed, or is at risk of serious harm in circumstances where abuse or neglect is know or suspected; and advising on the lessons that can be learned
