The academy offers a virtual learning environment to everyone within Central Bedfordshire’s children’s workforce, regardless of whether they are employed in the public, private or voluntary sector.

About the academy

Our academy is built through a partnership between Central Bedfordshire Council and the University of Bedfordshire and offers:

  • a range of information, advice and guidance (PDF 250.2KB) for all those working or considering a career in the children’s workforce. This includes support to access appropriate education and training, development of existing skills, and increased career prospects
  • a range of supported routes into social work and early years services, with bursaries for outstanding students and accelerated pathways for those with degrees or relevant experience
  • a practice unit for newly qualified social workers and students, offering dedicated support for those at an early stage in their careers
  • a strong research and evidenced based approach to professional practice that explores and tests new ideas that work and deliver outcomes for children, young people and families
  • an extensive and well resourced continuous professional development programme (link opens in new window), including access to a range of qualifications delivered through the University of Bedfordshire (link opens in new window) and our CACHE and City and Guilds accredited Centre
  • career progression and leadership development that offers master classes, lectures, qualifications in Management and Leadership, Masters and Doctoral level study
