Settlement Checking Service

Changes to the Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK

From 28 October 2013, there are 2 parts to the Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK (KOLL) requirement, both of which must be met by all applicants for settlement and naturalisation unless the individual is exempt (exemption details listed on the Home Office website).

From this date applicants will be required to both:

  • pass the Life in the UK test
  • have a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or an equivalent level qualification

Please refer to the Home Office website for further information.
