Gritting updates to your inbox

Don’t be caught out by the cold this year, sign up to Central Bedfordshire Council’s email alerts for updates on gritting and winter weather maintenance.

The council will be using its email service to update residents when the gritters will be out and letting you know which routes will be salted. Unlike previous years, subscribers will only be notified when the gritters will be out and about.

With temperatures already dropping, the gritting season is set to start on the 30 October running until the end of March and over 12,000 people have already signed up to the councils  email alerts to be prepared. You can also sign up by visiting:

The council will also be using the #ColdAsIce hashtag on their @LetsTalkCentral twitter account to provide the most up-to-the-minute advice and guidance, and followers of the social media site are urged to use it in their posts to share news, tips and let the council know how the weather is affecting essential services.

Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Community Services, said: "Last year we were quite lucky with the weather but should this year be bad we are prepared.

“Our teams are on stand by ready to jump into action whenever ice is likely to form and will grit our priority routes, which is half of the roads in Central Bedfordshire.

"Subscribing to our winter weather email alerts and following @LetsTalkCentral will be the quickest, most efficient way to get winter weather news and information.”
