Have your say on new school places for Thornhill Primary School in Houghton Regis

Please have your say on our proposal to expand Thornhill Primary School in Houghton Regis, in order to provide 60 new schools places in each year group for the 2021/22 school year.
This is part of our New School Places programme and also in response to current and future housing development on the HRN1 development, where up to 7,000 homes are being provided on the development. This includes sites for additional primary schools to serve the area.
This is the second and statutory part of a two-stage consultation process after we held a preliminary consultation in January to help form the proposal, with 80% of respondents either agreeing or strongly agreeing with the plans.
We're proposing to provide the necessary places through an expansion of Thornhill Primary School in a new building on land secured from the developer adjoining the existing school.
Admission arrangements for the new site would be finalised and published in time for the school admissions process for children who are due to start school in September 2021.
Sue Harrison, Director of Children’s Services, said: "There is a need for more primary school places in Houghton Regis, particularly to meet the level of housing growth planned for the area, so we were encouraged by the positive feedback about expanding Thornhill Primary School and this consultation is another opportunity for people to have their say.
"We continuously plan for new school places for the next five years, while our Schools for the Future programme is also working towards our longer term aims of ensuring that we have the right schools, in the right places, delivering the best education."
