£20.1m investment agreed for Dunstable Leisure Centre
Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive Committee has agreed to fund the £20.1m redevelopment of Dunstable Leisure Centre making it a new leisure and cultural space for the whole community.
The investment to the town centre site means that leisure, library and other facilities will all sit under one roof. This renovation will transform leisure facilities, revamp the library services and offer a range of other services and community space.
The centre will offer an improved health and fitness suite with 100+ fitness stations, a modernised library for all as well as an enhanced café.
Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Community Services said: “Today’s decision confirms our commitment to deliver great services to Dunstable, and throughout Central Bedfordshire. The leisure facilities will be dramatically enhanced and by bringing in the Library and other community services to the site, we will create a community hub which everyone can use and enjoy. “
Cllr Nigel Young, Executive Member for Regeneration said: “The council’s investment in the town centre is great news. This move will both improve our services to customers and unlock other opportunities to revitalise Dunstable.
“The move of the library, for example, will free up a fabulous central location at Vernon Place which will undoubtedly be a very attractive option for those looking to invest in the town’s cultural quarter, alongside the theatre, BBC, college and transformed service centre and college.”
