13 - Aspley Guise Open Gardens 2012

Date: Sunday 13 May 2012 and 15 July 2012
Time: 12:30am - 5:30pm
There are usually between 10-12 gardens open on both days so there is not only the chance to re-visit some favourites and see them at different flowering times but always some new ones to see at their best. Our gardens range from those tucked behind small Victorian terraces to larger modern landscaped vistas and also some classic gardens with Georgian houses.
Refreshments and plants are for sale in the Village Hall where there is also plenty of free parking. All proceeds in aid of the upkeep of the Village Hall.
Aspley Guise is very easy to reach from across the county as we are literally five minutes from J13 on the M1.
Admission: Adults £3.50 children under 14 free, if accompanied by an adult. There is a concession rate of £3.00 for pensioners.

4 - History Festival

Watch the lighting of the beacon and much, much more...
The Vikings have invaded the Downs, join us to explore the living history camp including an armoury, surgery, coin striking, calligraphy, textile and combat displays, weapons demonstrations and you’ll get a chance to watch a Holmganga (Viking duel) by torchlight. Why not enter the children into the ‘dress like a Viking competition’.
Part of the Jubilee weekend celebrations in conjunction with Beds Museum. This festival will rejoice in the diverse and fascinating history of the Downs. There will be workshops, exhibitions at the 5 Knolls, speakers, demonstrations and activities. The day will culminate with the lighting of the beacon.

9 - Wildlife Wonders, a Guided Walk

Led by expert Forest Volunteers. Blazing June! If the weather's right we'll see orchids, dragonflies, butterflies... and of course birds.
Meet outside the Forest Centre. Walks last around 3 hours and use surfaced and non-surfaced paths, including some gradients over 1:6. Around 2 miles. Bring binoculars if you have them (not essential as there are usually pairs to look through).

Bring the family and find out more about the wildlife in The Millennium Country Park on this mass wildlife recording day. This event is organised by Marston Vale Trust and the Bedfordshire Natural History Society. BNHS recorders will be out in force recording anything that flies, crawls, jumps, swims and grows. There will be a whole host of guided walks and sessions from butterfly walks and moth trapping to bird walks and hoverflies. Most walks will require you to just turn up on the day, first come first served. The moth trapping is an evening event which will require pre booking. More details on the various walks and timings will be available nearer the event.

15 - Aspley Guise Open Gardens 2012

Date: Sunday 15 July 2012
Time: 12:30am - 5:30pm
There are usually between 10-12 gardens open on both days so there is not only the chance to re-visit some favourites and see them at different flowering times but always some new ones to see at their best. Our gardens range from those tucked behind small Victorian terraces to larger modern landscaped vistas and also some classic gardens with Georgian houses.
Refreshments and plants are for sale in the Village Hall where there is also plenty of free parking. All proceeds in aid of the upkeep of the Village Hall.
Aspley Guise is very easy to reach from across the county as we are literally five minutes from J13 on the M1.
Admission: Adults £3.50 children under 14 free, if accompanied by an adult. There is a concession rate of £3.00 for pensioners.
