Latest News: Sign up for FREE SWIMMING!

Free swimming is available for persons aged 60 and over and young people aged 16 and under from April 1st 2009.

This is a Central Government initiative to encourage active lifestyles for all persons aged 60 and over and young people aged 16 and under. This scheme will run for 2 years from the 1st April 2009 until 31st March 2011.
Central Bedfordshire, working in partnership with pool operators Stevenage Leisure Ltd and Leisure Connection, has given its full support to this initiative for providing free swimming across Central Bedfordshire. From the 1st April 2009, free swimming will be available at all public pools in Central Bedfordshire during public swimming sessions.

Swimmers must complete a registration form and be given a membership card by the pool of their choice
before taking advantage of this scheme. In order to avoid the queues, swimmers are advised to register before the launch date at the pool with the appropriate *Application Form (application/pdf; 248kB).

Applicants must submit a copy of proof of eligibility at the time of application. Applications cannot be processed without relevant documentation. When registering please provide one of the following ID:

  • Bus pass
  • Pension letter
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Photographic Driving Licence

Swimming can be the perfect addition to a healthy lifestyle. We believe that participation in the free swimming scheme will allow more people to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle. This initiative will encourage residents
across Central Bedfordshire to visit their local pool and enjoy swimming and exercise as part of their everyday lifestyle. If you would like a pool timetable to choose a pool session that would be right for you then please click on the following relevant download:

Alternatively, contact customer services on 0300 300 8000 or contact your local participating centre and request a copy to be sent. Our aim is to see more local people becoming more active, more often.

Partnership is the key to making government initiatives such as this a success for the people who really matter – the general public, many of whom are simply not exercising enough for their health. By working together with Central Bedfordshire the free swimming programme will be very successful and a great benefit to the Central Bedfordshire communities.

The information contained on the application form will only be used for the purposes of Central Bedfordshire, Stevenage Leisure Limited and Leisure Connection, in the implementation of the Free Swimming Scheme. The
computer records are registered under the Data protection act and will not be transferred or exchanged with any other agencies.

Forms will also be available from the leisure centre, by post down loadable from this web site and will be distributed through Schools and Doctor's surgeries after the Easter break.
