Q: How do I find a list of current vacancies?

A: There are several ways to view our current vacancies, visit the "Jobs and Careers" section and click on the related links to view our current opportunities. In addition to the website we also advertise jobs in local newspapers and various trade press. Our School Job Opportunities Bulletin is distributed to all schools.

Q: How can I find out more information about a job opportunity?

A: Most of the jobs advertised provide contact details for you to discuss the job in more detail within the department. If there is no contact given in the advertisement, please contact the Resourcing team.

Q: Does Central Bedfordshire Council accept CVs?

A: We use an application form rather than requesting CVs to ensure that we treat all applicants fairly and equally. The application form ensures that all applicants present their information in the same standard format and only tell us what is relevant.

Q: How will I know if you have received my application?

A: You will receive an automated email response to acknowledge receipt of your application within 24 hours of submitting your application

Q: When can I expect to hear some news about my application?

A: Shortlisted candidates will receive a letter or email inviting them to attend an interview within 4 weeks of the closing date. It is our aim to reply to all applicants within 4 weeks, however, this is not always possible. If you have not received a response within 4 weeks of the closing date, you should assume that you have not been successful on this occasion. However, please do not be deterred from applying for other opportunities with Central Bedfordshire Council in the future.

Q: Can I get feedback on my application?

A: If you have been interviewed for a position and have not been successful you may request feedback. You should do this by contacting the recruiting manager direct. Their details will have been on the original advertisement.

Q: Can I apply for more than one job?

A: You can apply for any job at Central Bedfordshire Council as long as you meet the essential requirements for the role. The online recruitment website will allow you to complete your application form electronically and submit your application direct to us in a quick and convenient way. Applying online allows you to submit your application form to apply for another job without having to re-enter all your personal information. You simply need to change the information which is specific to the role for which you are applying.

Q: Why am I asked to complete the Equality and Diversity monitoring form?

A: Central Bedfordshire Council recognises and actively promotes the benefits of a diverse workforce and is committed to treating all employees with dignity and respect regardless of race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief. We have an Equal Opportunities Policy which aims to ensure that we treat all applicants fairly. The form is used to help us monitor this policy and will be separated from your application form. This information will not be made available to those involved in the selection process.

Q: How will I know if I have been shortlisted for interview?

A: We will notify you by email or letter if you have been shortlisted for interview

Q: What if I have missed the closing date?

Q: I have a criminal record, can I work for Central Bedfordshire Council?

A: Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar offenders from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of the offences..

Our policy on employment of ex offenders and CRB Code of Practice is available on request.

Q: Where can I find further information on the 'Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974?'

Q: Do I have to complete the online application form all in one go?

No. Once you have registered and you have your username and password, you can login and out as you please enabling you to complete the application form in stages if you prefer. Remember to save your information before logging out. You can login by selecting "Update Details" under the "Jobs and Careers" section of our website.

Q: Do I have to complete a new online application form every time I apply for a job?

No. Once you have entered all your details on the online system you can use them again for any subsequent applications. You should adapt the section called "Your Application" as this is your opportunity to tell us how your skills and experience are relevant to the job for which you are applying. 

If you apply using a manual application form, unfortunately you will have to complete a whole new application for each job you apply for.
