Housing benefit
What is Housing Benefit?
Housing Benefit is here to make sure you’ve always got a roof over your head – even at times when you’re unemployed or the income you get from work or self-employment is particularly low. In certain circumstances, we may also be able to help out with your council tax.
What Central Bedfordshire Council can’t do is help with mortgage payments, day-to-day bills such as gas and electricity – or the cost of buying your home.
Am I eligible?
If you’re living in rented accommodation, whether that’s a council-owned property, a privately-owned property, a furnished or unfurnished flat, house or bedsit, we can help you to meet your monthly payments. And if you pay ground rent to live in a mobile home or rent a room in a shared house under a licence agreement, we can help out there too.
It’s easy to find out if you qualify for housing benefit. Simply fill in our online benefit calculator for an instant estimate.
How do I claim?
First, we’ll need you to tell us a few details about your household, your finances and the property you’re currently living in, and provide proof of all that information. There's more about this on our new claim page.
To make your life as simple as possible, we’ve got several application methods for housing benefit. Pop into one of our offices for an application form, or call/email us and we’ll happily send one out to you in the post.
