Planning guidance - waste and recycling
As part of a planning application submission, all proposed waste and recycling management arrangements for new developments are required to be detailed to and approved in writing by the council prior to any development taking place. The bin stores and facilities shall then be provided in accordance with the approved plan and agreed prior to the first occupation of the development and retained thereafter.
Developers will be required to cover all the costs of providing new waste receptacles for all residents. Please see required waste containers and costs.
The council are keen to ensure that new residential developments within Central Bedfordshire provide adequate space and provisions which fit the service offered by the council. The council has therefore produced two documents which should be used as a guide at the planning stage to ensure that any application meets the council's requirements with regards to waste and recycling.

Municipal Waste Strategy
The Municipal Waste Strategy for Bedfordshire was produced by Bedfordshire County Council on behalf of the Bedfordshire Authorities Waste Partnership.
Underpinning the strategy is the waste hierarchy; we aim to reduce waste in the first instance, then aim to promote re-use and following that we will make the most of every opportunity to recycle.
