School Admission Arrangements – September 2011
The School Admissions Code replaces the requirement on admission authorities to consult annually on their admission arrangements. Admission authorities need only consult every three years, unless any changes are proposed to those arrangements.The Central Bedfordshire Council is consulting on the following changes to its admissions arrangements for September 2011:
Admissions Criteria
- The inclusion of an additional criterion to the admission policies of all community and voluntary controlled schools. The change will give catchment siblings a higher priority for admission than other catchment children. Please follow the link to view the proposed changes to the

- Some community and voluntary controlled schools have criteria in addition to those set out in the standard policy. These will be retained, subject to the changes below. The change to give catchment siblings a higher priority will be inserted at the appropriate point in the policy. Please follow the link to the

- The Governing Bodies of the following schools that are their own admission authority are proposing to make a similar change to their policies and have asked the Local Authority to consult on their behalf. The change to give catchment siblings a higher priority will be inserted at the appropriate point in the policy. Please follow the link to the

Admission Numbers
A change is proposed to the admission numbers for the following schools:Gravenhurst Lower School– an increase from 9 to 10
Mary Bassett Lower School– an increase from 30 to 60
Roecroft Lower School– an increase from 30 to 60 (subject to building of new school)
Co-ordinated Admission Schemes
A change is proposed to the Co-ordinated Scheme for Admissions to Lower, Primary and Middle Schools, to reflect the requirement on local authorities to co-ordinate applications from residents living in the local authority’s area, irrespective of whether the application is for a school in or outside the local authority area. No changes are proposed to the catchment areas or the relevant area for admissions. The relevant area will continue to cover the administrative area of the Central Bedfordshire Council.
