We wanted to know the views of current customers, their relatives and others who have an interest in our money management service. We also wanted to understand what the positive and negative impacts will be on individuals and how we might best manage these issues.

We asked if there could be options we have not explored or would like us to explore in more detail. We also asked to hear views on alternative ways the charging could be considered.

In summary the feedback received from the consultation told us:

  • it was recognised as a vital service we offer, with the growing demand and need to support more customers
  • feedback agreed we could not continue as we were and the service needs to be accessible to all
  • the majority agreed with introducing a charge and that the charges need to be fair and proportionate
  • whilst there are alternative providers, there was also reassurance that the service will continue to be audited by the Office of the Public Guardian and by our Internal Audit service

We did

To ensure we are delivering the right service, we invited customers and stakeholders to share views and feedback on the proposals. This was via a formal consultation process for the money management service from 16 January 2018 to 12 March 2018.

We engaged through many different activities to gain feedback from a range of stakeholders.

The results of the consultation were taken into account on 28 March 2018 and the decision was made to introduce the charges by Councillor Richard Wenham (Executive Member, Corporate Resources and Deputy Leader of the Council) and Charles Warboys (Director of Resources), under delegated responsibility of the Fees and Charges Policy.
