Useful sources of information
If you are looking for supply opportunities, including sub-contracting, there are a number of steps you can follow:
Find out what types of goods and services the council buys:
- Have a look at the expenditure over £500 details on our Transparency pages.
Find out if a current contract exists:
- All contracts with a total value of £60,000 or above are listed on the Register of Contracts. Where a contract already exists, it is unlikely that there will be a supply opportunity until the contract is due for renewal.
Find tender opportunities
Current tender opportunities can be advertised in a number of ways depending on the contract value and the type of purchase being made. The list below sets out some of the places that the council might use to publish its tender advertisements (or Contract Notices if above EU thresholds):
- On our Supplier website where you can register your details, view any current tenders and express an interest
- On the council's website - on our Procurement page
- In the Official Journal of the European Union (for tenders in excess of the threshold for application of the full EU procurement directives)
- In Contracts Finder (a search facility provided by Business Link) – a free service but registration may be required (please note not all our tenders may appear on this site)
- In national and/or local press
- In relevant trade journals
If you are interested in participating in a tender exercise you can obtain the documents by following the instructions set out in the individual advertisement.
How to quote or tender
If you wish to tender for a particular contract you should refer to the instructions set out in the individual quotation and tender documents.
Please do not send unsolicited marketing material as it cannot be taken into consideration when conducting competitive procurement exercises.
In addition, Business Link provides more general guidance on how to quote or tender for public sector work. The guidance is based on selling to the Government but local authorities are bound by the same procurement legislation and similar principles.
Business Link also provides a link to a free online training module called ‘Winning the Contract’.
