Could It Be You?

Satisfaction is on offer when you support a person with learning disabilities to experience everyday life. Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire Council’s Adult Placement Scheme are looking for individuals that could both enjoy, and meet, the challenge of becoming a carer.
The scheme is a service supporting adults with learning disabilities to access greater everyday life opportunities with the local community, by living or spending time with a family or carer.
Being an adult carer can help you grow and bring rewards of a personal and financial nature, you are also able to gain training for a care qualification. Being a carer is flexible and can go on to shape the lives of those in need. Anyone (over 18) can become an adult placement carer.
In a joint statement, Cllr Nicky Attenborough at Bedford Borough Council and Cllr Carole Hegley at Central Bedfordshire Council said: “We have so many success stories where both parties have got something out of the caring/cared for experience. Not only does caring for someone mean that you give them a sense of purpose, it also often ends up working both ways. We have a number of heart-warming success stories to tell as a result of this scheme; one of our placements had never been on a plane and his carer was able to take him on a holiday abroad, which was a fantastic experience for him, and since then they have gone on even more holidays together.”
