In order to meet the demand for new lower school places in Ampthill, the council is proposing to permanently enlarge Russell Lower School. The expansion would see the school increase its capacity from 300 to 450 places, meaning its first year intake would consist of three rather than two classes (moving from two form entry to three form entry).
Please let us know what you think of these plans by having your say by Wednesday, 10 July 2013.

Consultation on proposal to change licensing policy on sex establishments in Central Bedfordshire
Consultation opens: Monday, 10 June 2013
Consultation closes: Friday, 30 August 2013
How can I have my say: Take a look at our
consultation document (PDF 65KB) and fill in the online response form. You can also view the full
draft policy (PDF 278KB).
Paper copies of the consultation document and response form are available from the council’s customer service points at our offices, along with a reference copy of the policy. You can also request paper copies of these documents by ringing 0300 300 4394.
Following a telephone survey of 1,123 residents across Central Bedfordshire, the council has received clear feedback that our licensing policy on sex establishments - a term which includes sex shops, sex cinemas and sexual entertainment venues – is not strict enough. The results of the survey showed that the public were particularly concerned about the locations in which licensed sexual entertainment venues could operate in.
As a result of this feedback, we have drafted a
new policy (PDF 278KB) on the licensing of sex establishments in the area. This would prevent licences for sexual entertainment venues being granted within 500m of schools and nurseries; areas frequented by children and families; residential, retail and leisure areas; parks; areas frequented by vulnerable adults; community buildings; places of religious worship and sites of historical or heritage value.
Please have your say by referencing the documents mentioned above and filling in the online form by Friday, 30 August.

Consultation on Central Bedfordshire's draft Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan
Consultation starts: Monday, 20 May
Consultation closes: Monday, 1 July
How can I have my say?: To have your say or find out more about the draft plan, please visit our dedicated Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan page.
Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking your views on our Draft Gypsy and Traveller Local Plan, which sets out how we will meet Gypsy and Traveller accommodation needs in the area until 2031.
The plan specifies the number of Gypsy and Traveller pitches required and identifies potential sites to meet this need. It also outlines the policies against which all planning applications for Gypsy and Traveller sites will be assessed.
Superfast Broadband Survey
Superfast broadband could be winging its way to most of Central Bedfordshire and you can help by completing a survey to show just how much demand there is for the service.
Superfast broadband would mean people could download music, games and films more quickly, and websites would download faster too. And for businesses the service would boost opportunities to access global marketplaces and allow more companies to offer flexible working to employees. Please read the
Joint Local Broadband Plan (PDF 991KB) (the JLBP) for more information.
Please take part in the survey online.
