CCTV

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) helps reduce crime, nuisance and anti-social behaviour, and assists in securing arrests and prosecutions.

Cameras are located in:

  • town centres
  • car parks
  • a number of smaller retail areas

We record images from control rooms in Dunstable and Stevenage. Cameras record 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Images are retained for 21 days at Dunstable and 28 days at Stevenage.

Central Bedfordshire Council also operates a number of re-deployable cameras which are placed in hot spot areas where static CCTV does not exist. We always consult local residents prior to deployment of a mobile camera.

There are 90 cameras monitored from Dunstable in the following areas:

  • Dunstable
  • Leighton Buzzard
  • Houghton Regis
  • Caddington

There are 15 cameras monitored from Stevenage in the following areas:

  • Biggleswade
  • Sandy
  • Shefford
