Community Involvement - Tithe Farm
Hazel Simmons – Community Development Officer Tithe Farm
Hello, I am the Community Development Officer for Tithe Farm, Houghton Regis. My role is to work with local residents to help develop their own community led activities and groups, etc. This includes supporting them to apply for grant funding, run activities and deal with local issues in the area.
This work is often called ‘capacity building’ and is a very important aspect in achieving the actions in the Neighbourhood Plan for the area. I would like to help the local community develop a real partnership with service providers so that they can develop solutions to local issues.
If you wish to create a new community group and are looking for advice and help, please do call me on:

Parkside and Tithe Farm Neighbourhood Plan 2008 – 2017
This plan identifies a nine year vision for the estates based on building strong, proud, and vibrant communities where local services respond to local needs. The plan is based on what local residents and service providers have told us are the most critical issues to be addressed for Parkside and Tithe Farm If you would like to know more about the plan please call me on the above number or

Support to Community Groups
I work with the Recycled Teenagers, a community group providing activities for the over sixties. The group meet on the first Monday of each month at the Memorial Hall, The Green, Houghton Regis from 10.30 am until 12.30pm. There are regular speakers and you can get involved in craft activities. There is always a cup of tea, a raffle and time to have a chat. So if you are young at heart and would like to join, please ring me for further information on the above number.
I also work alongside the Tithe Farm Tenants and Residents Association which meets on a monthly basis at Tithe Farm Neighbourhood Centre, Tithe Farm Road, Houghton Regis.
The Association advocates on behalf of local tenants and residents on various issues and campaigns to improve housing conditions local amenities and the environment. The Association is often successful in obtaining grant funding to organise fun events for the community in Tithe Farm. So why not volunteer to help out at a future event? This can be a way of not only making friends but having fun as well. For more information on the meetings or on the fun events please contact Mick Jackson, Chair, on 01582 868156 or Jackson.md@ntlworld.com.
