Community and living
Sometimes in our day-to-day lives, we need a little help from those around us...
There are just over 250,000 people living in Central Bedfordshire, with around 107,000 households. In this section of our website, we focus on the day-to-day issues that face us all. We’re here to help you find local, convenient services you can trust – from child-minders to chaperones in our Childcare section, through to dealing with anti social behaviour.
Further information
On the left hand side of the page you will see a number of links to take you to more information on each topic.
Births
Every time a child is born, there are certain legal requirements that parents have to take care of, such as registering the birth. We can give you help and advice on the how to do this.
Libraries
Bedfordshire libraries have their own dedicated website where you can access a whole host of resources, as well as heaps of information on special collections, online tools and local events.
Recycling, rubbish and waste
Residents of Bedfordshire are now recycling 40% of our household waste: a huge increase since 2000/01, when the figure was only 5%. Our next target is to recycle 50% of all household waste by 2011.
Street care and cleaning
Keeping the environment clean and tidy is important to us. We believe that streets that are free of graffiti, rubbish and rotting leaves makes everyone’s walk to school or work more pleasant, all year round.
