The next steps

A decision about the next step is made within 24 hours. The options are initial assessment, or no further action.

No further action means that the family are not eligible for services. If appropriate, the team will signpost to other mainstream services or support groups.

Initial Assessment

This assessment is done within 10 working days. It is a brief assessment (may be a phone call or a meeting) to meet the child and find out more about the family situation and the support needed. At this stage advice, guidance and support on a range of issues relating to the child’s disability may be given.

After the initial assessment, our Joint Agency Panel (JAP) or our Children with Disabilities Allocation Panel (CDAP) will meet to decide what help can be offered.

After the panel's decision, support is set up within agreed timescales.
