I am a birth parent / relative
If you are a close birth relative living in Central Bedfordshire or an adult (aged 18 years or over) who was adopted as a child you may like the opportunity to discuss your feelings about this with a member of the Adoption Team.
Under some circumstances it may be possible for us to trace your family member on your behalf in order to find out if they would like to have any form of contact with you.
My child is being placed for adoption
Some birth parents may have had their child removed by the Local Authority because of concerns about the child’s welfare. The Local Authority and the Court may decide that this is best for the child, and you may not be happy with the decision.
As birth parents you are able to have access to a support worker, independent of their child’s social worker, as soon as the Local Authority definitely decide that adoption is to be the proposed plan for the child.
You are entitled to counselling, advice and information about adoption and related issues. This includes an explanation of the adoption process so that you know what is going to happen and what it means for you.
You will be able to talk through any worries you have about adoption and your views about the plan.
We can help you:
- access independent advice and support
- maintain letterbox contact with a child who has been adopted.
