Procurement - policy
Procurement Team
Thank you for visiting Central Bedfordshire Council’s Procurement Team internet pages. These are designed to provide you with information as to how we work, how the Council procures a wide range of goods, works and services.
What’s our role?
The Procurement Team provide advice and assistance to a wide group of purchasers across the Council to ensure that there is consistency of approach and that they get the best possible deal for the benefit of the people of Central Bedfordshire.
What's our Strategy?
The Council has developed a Commissioning and Procurement Strategy and all officers must support and adhere to it. The Strategy brings together into one document all of the essential elements from Commissioning and Procurement that are needed to ensure that Central Bedfordshire residents get best value for money.

If you have any queries or comments regarding the Strategy: please email them to the Procurement Team at Procurement@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk. or the Head of Procurement robert.gregan@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
How we spend
The Council has an obligation to make sure that every penny is spent prudently, following all necessary EU and UK regulations. The Procurement Team is committed to ensuring that this is the case.
Competition
In the majority of cases the Council will seek competition for everything it buys, from a paperclip to a new school building. The thresholds (procurement limits) outline how the Council seeks competition.
Who are we?
There are three teams within the Procurement Team, who deliver a quality service. They are as follows:
Category Review - proactively reviews how the Council spends its money on goods and services with a view to delivering innovative sourcing solutions.
Policy and Process - responsible for developing procurement policies and processes, ensuring that they are widely understood and adopted.
e-Procurement - electronic tendering/order placement using SAP, the Council’s e-Procurement and e-Sourcing solution, to ensure efficient and effective procurement and sourcing.

The Council encourages suppliers of goods, works and services to register their interest in doing business with the Council. The Council’s ‘Vendor’ Portal allows you to do this. It takes no more than 5 minutes to complete on-line. Please ignore the section’ Regional Settings’.
Registration does not guarantee that your organisation will be offered any contract in the future or be invited to tender. Your information will be retained on our supplier database and may be used by us should you express an interest in a specific tender opportunity at a later date.
