Welfare reform

Welfare reform

The government has already introduced major changes to the welfare system, with more to follow.

For people of working age, the government's aim is to make the system simpler and make sure you are better off in work than on benefits. At the same time, the government is looking to make savings, by reducing the total cost of benefits and tax credits across the country.

Most benefits are changing in some way, and more details about the changes are being announced all the time. We know these changes will affect a lot of people living in Central Bedfordshire.

Some of the changes may mean you will receive less money in benefits. You will need to budget for things such as your rent and other bills to make sure you don't run into trouble with your finances.
