Council Tax Support

Council Tax Support Fund for 2023-24

In spring 2023 the government announced a Council Tax Support Fund to reduce the amount of Council Tax owed by residents who are also in receipt of Council Tax Support. Residents are eligible for this support if they are in receipt of Council Tax Support during 2023-24 but have to pay some level of Council Tax during the period of the claim.

These payments were for up to £25 per household. The total value of Council Tax Support and the hardship payment cannot be larger than the Council Tax liability, during the claim period.

These payments were credited to Council Tax accounts in March 2023 or when you were awarded Council Tax Support during 2023-24 and shown on the 2023-24 bills.

Increased reductions from January 2024

As we have underspent our government funding, we have increased the reduction to up to £50, rather than up to £25.

You do not need to claim the increased reduction. If you are eligible, we have automatically credited the extra payment to your Council Tax account and have sent you a revised Council Tax bill which reflects the additional reduction.

You may receive less than £50 if during the 2023-24 claim period the difference between your Council Tax liability and Council Tax Support is less than £50.
